Let's talk about barrel aging
It's time to "clear" up a common misunderstanding. All spirits are clear at the end of the distillation process. Spirits like whiskey and aged rum take on color in one of two ways, they absorb flavor and color from barrel aging, or they are colored with things like caramel.
Barrel-aged spirits are not better than unaged spirits. They're only different. Barrels can impart wonderful flavors onto a spirit but the longer it is aged, the less of the original ingredient we can taste.
